Hand Made Candles
I have been making candles for over ten years and in that time have enjoyed experimenting with different waxes and techniques. Although I still use some paraffin wax - for many years the most common candle wax - I prefer to use natural waxes from sustainable, renewable sources.
When burning candles of any type, please remember the following:
- Never leave a burning candle unattended.
- Extinguish candles before moving them.
- Place candles away from other heat sources, including direct sunlight.
- Leave about a hand's width between lighted candles to prevent overheating.
- Burn all candles on a suitable, non-flammable container on a heat-resistant surface.
- Keep candles out of draughts and away from curtains and other flammable items.
- Ensure candles are out of reach of children and pets.
- Container candles: ensure the container is undamaged before burning.
- Remember containers will become hot in use, and place on a heat-proof surface.
- Be especially careful if using a lantern or other enclosed holder. Most of these are designed for use with tea lights and should never be used for larger candles.
