Beeswax is the original “green” wax, renewable and sustainable. It has been used for centuries in the manufacture of high quality candles, because of its excellent burning qualities and its lovely, honey-like aroma. Bees only produce wax when they are making honey, and only produce one kilo of wax for every seven and a half kilos of honey. Because of this, beeswax candles were very costly and only the wealthy could afford them; the poor had to make do with tallow. Although beeswax is still more expensive than other types of candle wax, it is no longer the preserve of the wealthy, and everyone can afford a little luxury.
The novelty candles are produced in pure beeswax and hand painted. They are finished with a lacquer coat to prevent the natural bloom which would otherwise occur on the surface of the beeswax. Colours may vary from those illustrated, so if you require a particular colour - a blue snail or a teddy with a purple bow tie, for example - then please e-mail me with your requirements.
